The road to Split runs through Zadar and Šibenik. We were originally booked to stop in Zadar, but our driver graciously offered to let us spend a bit less time in Zadar and visit Šibenik as well (our original wish).
Zadar is an ancient city full of Roman and Venetian ruins. Pretty amazing to walk up to a Roman Forum or stroll into the pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donatus from the 9th century.
But Zadar’s main claims to fame are works of art: the Sun Saluation and, especially, the completely unique Sea Organ, which uses waves from the sea to serenade visitors.

We listened for a bit before continuing on to Šibenik.
The main attraction here is beautiful St. James Cathedral (Katedrala sv. Jakova), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and architectural marvel with Renaissance influences from northern Italy.
Thank you to our driver, Duje, for making the trip from Rovinj to Split so memorable!
