We left Split with a hearty breakfast and fond farewells to the hotel staff who helped to make our stay so wonderful.
We found that the road to Dubrovnik is filled with stands where local women sell fruits, garlic, olive oil and more. We have been using the olive oil we bought as our go-to since we returned from our trip.
The journey also took us past the Rizman winery, if you take a slight detour down a backroad. Fortunately, our driver knew the way. What a beautiful view with great wine and tasty snacks!
When we arrived in the Dubrovnik area, we understood why they call it the Pearl of the Adriatic. The Hotel More provided the perfect home base to see the sights and the sunset.
The next morning we took in the amazing view from the balcony.
Then we took the ferry to Lokrum Island and made a bee line for - guess what - the Iron Throne! Who knew it was tucked away on the island after it was gifted to the city of Dubrovnik when the series ended? Of course, we each tried the throne on for size.
The island is also known for an inlet called the Dead Sea that visitors can use as a protected swimming spot right next to an oasis serving refreshing cocktails on a warm day.
Did we mention the peacocks that roam free around the island? We were obsessed (ok, Suzette was obsessed) with the peacocks. :)
What an excellent morning to escape the crowds in Dubrovnik old town and come back to the port as the afternoon approached.
